Are any of these American comic awards, Eisner or Harvey or whatever, significant? Or the Oscar when it comes to anime for that matter? Half the time when I hear a manga is nominated in some award, it comes across as a door prize by the western comic industry who otherwise couldn't give two red yens about manga, or even bother to learn to pronounce the name of the mangaka. Why should any self-respecting manga or anime fan gives a shit if Eisner, Harvey, or the Oscar tosses a bone to a popular title once in a while? Besides, their recognition is self-serving at best and condescending rest of the time. I'm skeptical if many of them are particularly knowledgeable of the medium itself. Do they venture out beyond western comics or popular manga titles into mahjong manga, indie manga, hentai manga, golf manga, cooking manga, ero-guro manga, pachinko manga, mystery manga, sports manga, to say nothing of josei and seinen? I mean, are these comic industry guys actually fans beyond the few male adolescent edge lord favorites from yesteryears like Berserk, Akira, or Lone Wolf and Cub? Or are they just checking boxes they were told to, without diving into the ocean and see what else are there to offer?

That first comment said a whole lot of nothing but "blah, blah this award isn't relevant to anime and manga fans", it's an award that probably means more to the mangaka and original publisher than it does to the average anime and manga fan. It means that their series has international appeal.

Also, several manga have been nominated (and won) the Best U.S. edition of International Material before the split in 2007, notable nominees of this award were Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, What's Michael, Uzumaki, Cromartie High School, Eagle: The Making of an Asian-American President. Notable winners include Akira, Gon Swimmin', Blade of the Immortal, Osamu Tezuka's Buddha, Lone Wolf and Cub

After the split, take a look at the article on Wikipedia for yourself. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eisner_Award_for_Best_U.S._Edition_of_International_Material—Asia

First Oppenheimer omits the Hiroshima bombings, and now the Barefoot Gen guy gets denied an Eisner. What's up with that? We could be at nuclear war with Russia, and it's important to acknowledge the past consequences of nuclear power.

The original Tales from Earthsea won and is easily the best of the nominated manga. This is what Goro should have properly adapted into his film instead of combing it with random bits from Earthsea novels and original ideas.

The Eisner is the highest US award for comics. What the Tezuka is in Japan.
Nothing wrong with Nakazawa not getting in again but Ann Nocenti made it. For what?!? The X-men comics she edited were good but not Hall of Fame good and 2/3rds of her Daredevil run were solid but JRJ´s art was the main appeal. All else though, uff.

Oppenheimer directly addresses why the bombings aren´t shown in the film in Harry S. Truman´s scene and the film is shown from Oppenheimer´s subjective point of view for most of the runtime. He has no context for the events, the targets and the use of the weapons weren´t on him so the paranoid vision of Nolan´s own daughter melting during his big internal meltdown stands in.

Things that have absolutely no relation to each other for $400, Alex.
